[ LatheCity ]
(C) 2012, LatheCity

The following is a short list of machining tools that require a Morse taper and can be made using our Morse taper Cutter:

  • Tailstock Center ($10)
  • Headstock Center ($10)
  • Concave centers (useful to modify parts which have pin ends) (Never seen commercially, except at LatheCity, $12.99)
  • Morse-to-Center Drill Adapters (available from LatheCity – very convenient to have those) ($20/piece)
  • Morse Adapter for Miniature Drill Bits (that will save you a lot of time, since it is particularly tedious to clamp these small diameters in a Jacobs drill chuck – also available from LatheCity) ($20)
  • Morse-to-Jacobs Chuck Adapter (a Morse adapter typically with one end threaded – use only with miniature Jacobs Chucks on Sherline systems) ($5-$15)
  • Endmill Holder using a Morse taper and drawbar (probably the best way to center an endmill perfectly) (I have not seen these anymore.)
  • Morse arbors can be cut using boring tools (that’s trickier but does work) ($40)
  • Morse Adapters of any kind (e.g., Morse #2 Taper to Morse #0 Arbor – for larger machines) ($10-$20)
  • Extended Centers (centers long enough to reach over a cross-slide) ($5-$10)
  • Adjustable tailstock accessories (the LASER protractor actually allows you to adjust the lathe) ($30/each)
  • Morse Adapters that hold somewhat larger diameter drill bits (A Jacobs chuck that can hold large diameter drill bits is huge and simply too heavy for a miniature Morse #0 arbor used on small machines. However, mounting that drill bit directly in a Morse arbor may still work. However, don’t overdo it with the diameters, please, or this adapter will become too unstable and dangerous. The torque of the lathe motor will also limit working with larger diameter drill bits.) ($20)
  • A Morse adapter that holds a lathe chuck can also be made. ($30-$40)
  • Jacobs taper/arbor to Morse taper/arbor. ($30-$60)

In parenthesis is the estimated price of these accessories when purchased.
For all of these you will easily end up paying $200, just for one each. Since labor costs are not an issue for hobby machinists, you would save a lot of money making these accessories by yourself. The LatheCity LASER protractor will help you to do so, but machining skills are certainly required. [ Safety booklet ]
